Why should I get organized? The benefits of getting organized are many! Being organized makes life easier! It can bring clarity of mind, less stress, more time, a changed attitude, and a new outlook. You will know where items are located and be out the door on time every time. When we are surrounded by clutter, even clutter hidden away in the closet, it wears on us emotionally. Being organized can also save you money! Purchasing duplicate items, incurring late fees or finance charges can really add up!
Why can't I get organized myself or with a friend? Many people are able to utilize books and articles to get organized or enlist the help of a friend or family member, but the solutions they offer are broad and do not take into consideration the individual and their complexities. For someone who is struggling to even get started, a Professional Organizer is often the best resource. Hiring a professional ensures that your time is well spent developing new systems that are customized to you. Working with a Professional Organizer will also help you to stay excited about and on track with the project.
How long does it take to get organized?
We can provide you with an approximate time frame but it will really depend on the following factors: the size of the space, how much stuff is in the space, and how quickly you are able to make decisions.
Will my house look like the TV makeover shows when we are done?
No. Makeover shows are done over many days or weeks and have a tremendous budget. Additionally, the spaces they show are staged, meaning not functional. We will create functional spaces for you that look nice and allow for proper storage.
Do I need to clean my house before we meet?
We ask that you do not clean before your organizing session. It is important that we observe your space as it usually is so that we can provide the best recommendations for you.
Should I buy organizing supplies before our first session?
Please do not buy organizing supplies prior to meeting. If you have existing supplies that you would like to use we will do our best to incorporate them. Other supplies will be determined as we organize your space.
I'm worried - Will you will ask me to throw away all of my stuff?
We will never tell you to get rid of your items. We work with you to help you make a final decision about what you will keep or not keep.
What if I just need help knowing where to start?
We are happy to do a consult only meeting with you at an hourly rate with a two hour minimum.
How do I stay organized after we finish?
During your organizing session(s) you learn ways to stay organized and how to manage your space. We put together systems for you to use that should make staying organized much easier. But success really depends upon you following the agreed upon systems we have created.
What do Professional Organizers charge for services? Most Professional Organizers have a college degree and come from a professional background where they have developed their skills. Work is typically done by the hour at a rate between $40 - $150 per hour according to location and experience. Similar to a doctor, a Professional Organizer is paid to listen, ask questions, provide a diagnosis, develop and implement a solution, and then evaluate and make adjustments. Harmony's rate starts at $50per hour. Discounts are available with the purchase of package hours.
Home staging rates vary according to size of the home and amount of work needed.
